2024 APOST Asia Pacific Oto Surgery Training Course & Nurotron

From August 17 to 18, 2024, Sat-Sun, the APOST (Asia Pacific Oto Surgery Training) was grandly held at the Nurotron Cochlear Implant Industry Base.

As the international ear surgery training course hosted by Nurotron, this event brought together top ear experts from Asia and Europe. It was not only a deep integration of knowledge and technology, but also an important milestone in promoting the development of the otolaryngology field in Asia and Europe.

Gather Elites, Discuss the New Future of Otology

This APOST training course attracted many outstanding talents in the field of otology at home and abroad. Prof. Michael TONG (Director of the Graduate Department of the Department of Laryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, Department of Surgery, The Chinese University of Hong Kong),Prof. Nishchay MEHTA (Otolaryngologist at the Royal National Throat, Nose, and Ear Hospital, UK),Prof. DAI Chunfu (Director of Otology and Skull Base Surgery at the Fudan University Affiliated Eye, Ear, Nose, and Throat Hospital),Prof. Alice SIU (Deputy Director of the Pediatric Otolaryngology Division of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, The Chinese University of Hong Kong),Dr. Dogan CAKAN (Assistant Professor, Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, The Chinese University of Hong Kong), Dr. LU Ling (Nanjing Drum Tower Hospital), Prof. YIN Li (Dean of the Nurotron Institute of Audiology, Speech, and Medicine),are invited to be the lecturer for the theoretical courses and practical exercises of this training course.

During the two days, the experts conducted in-depth and extensive discussions on the hot and difficult issues of otology diagnosis and treatment. They started from the basics and gradually progressed to the complex middle ear and inner ear surgeries and delicate lateral skull base surgeries, bringing the students a wonderful academic feast with their profound academic foundation and rich clinical experience.

Among them, Prof. Michael TONG brought a special course on “Anatomy, Physiology of the Middle Ear, and Principles and Setups of Temporal Dissection and Otological Operations”, and shared with the guests the relevant knowledge points of other surgeries besides middle ear surgery. Prof. Nishchay MEHTA brought a series of courses on “Otosclerosis and Stapes Surgery” and ” Implant Surgeries”. Prof. DAI Chunfu explained the courses on “Approach to Cholesteatoma Surgery” and “Surgical Management of the Facial Nerve in the Lateral Skull Base Surgery “. In-depth Practice, New Ideas in Teaching Models

In addition to theoretical study, this training class also includes a wealth of practical exercises. Under the guidance of Prof. Michael TONG, Prof. Nishchay MEHTA and Professor DAI Chunfu, the students experienced first-hand the anatomical identification of the middle ear, inner ear, epitympanum and posterior tympanum, as well as ossicular chain reconstruction, stapedectomy, ear Advanced surgical techniques such as tractoplasty and electrode implantation. Through repeated practice and expert comments, the students’ surgical skills have been significantly improved.

What is particularly worth mentioning is the 3D broadcast technology introduced for the first time in this training class. By wearing 3D glasses, students feel as if they are at the surgery site and can experience the experts’ exquisite skills at close range. This immersive learning method not only greatly improves teaching interactivity and observation experience, but also innovates the otology medical education model. A new benchmark has been set.

In addition, a seamless remote communication link has been established between the temporal bone laboratory and the classroom, ensuring that even students in the classroom or conference room can clearly observe every detail of the surgical operation. This innovative measure not only greatly improves the convenience and efficiency of teaching, but also provides strong support for holding large-scale surgical training classes with a large number of students at one time.

Visit & Exchange, Enhance Understanding and Cooperation

In addition to intense study, the students also visited the Nurotron exhibition hall, production workshop, reliability laboratory and other places. Through the on-site inspection, the trainees gained a deeper understanding of the superior technology, production process, and safety and reliability of the Nurotron cochlear implant, which laid a solid foundation for more in-depth exchanges and cooperation in the future.
