Prof. Jun LIU of the Henan Provincial People’s Hospital published “A Preliminary Study on the Impact of Activated Channel Count on Speech Perception in Modern Cochlear Implant Recipients,” directly addressing a core technical issue in cochlear implants: Does more channels necessarily mean better results?

The study compared the performance of 8, 12, 16, 22, and 24 channels, finding:

– Significant differences were found in MSP short sentence recognition scores between 8 and 22 channels, 8 and 24 channels, and 12 and 24 channels.

– Increasing the number of channels significantly improved speech recognition ability in quiet environments.

This conclusion points the way for the development of cochlear implant technology: more channels bring a better auditory experience!

Auditory Brainstem Implantation: A Breakthrough in Domestic Technology

Prof. Hao WU of the Shanghai Ninth People’s Hospital,Shanghai jiaoTong University School of Medicine, in his paper “Advances in Auditory Reconstruction for Sensorineural Hearing Loss,” specifically introduced the Nurotron Auditory Brainstem Implantation System—the first domestically produced auditory brainstem implantation system. Prof. Yuan LI from the Affiliated Hospital of Hangzhou Normal University shared a clinical study on the safety and efficacy of cochlear implants under magnetic resonance imaging in patients with severe to profound sensorineural ear disease, highlighting the clinical trial results of the Nurotron CS-30A cochlear implant:

The Nurotron Institute of Audiology, Speech and Medicine’s study on “Comparative Study of Speech Audiometry Results Between Direct Bluetooth Input and Sound Field Testing for Cochlear Implants” shows that in quiet environments, the speech recognition rate of cochlear implant users via Bluetooth direct input is significantly higher than that of sound field audiometry. Bluetooth audiometry is convenient to operate, reduces environmental interference, and provides a more accurate and efficient new approach for cochlear implant evaluation. The study on the reliability and validity of the “Quick Self-Assessment Questionnaire for Expected Cochlear Implant Use (QSACI)” in patients of different ages showed that QSACI scores were significantly correlated with patients’ postoperative hearing ability, demonstrating good reliability and validity. The QSACI can effectively help cochlear implant candidates and doctors conduct rapid assessments of expected outcomes and can be used for outcome evaluation and expectation management for implant recipients of different ages.
